For first-generation, low-income students to get the most from their Stanford experience, they need access to crucial resources and tools. The Stanford Summer Fellows Program is an immersive, eight-week residential program that equips them with opportunities ranging from “intro-ships” to sponsored research, and a robust community along the way.

“We all need people in our corners. When you know more people, and more people are looking out for you, you have access to better opportunities for yourself and for your family.”
Deb Stevenson, associate vice provost and dean of academic advising

Undergraduate Education and Student Life: The impact

Why it matters

Stanford is working with renewed deliberation to remove financial and academic obstacles to ensure that our next generation of leaders has the opportunities, resources, and frames of understanding to live, work, and serve as active societal contributors.

The opportunity

The Stanford Summer Fellows Program helps students with limited experience gain exposure to mentored research, academic, and workplace experiences. The program is part of Leveling the Learning Landscape's Improving Summer Impact effort, started through the generosity of an anonymous donor. It aims to foster early academic success, confidence, and belonging.
