Angela, ’93, & David Filo, MS ’90
While Angela Filo never met the donor of her Stanford scholarship, one detail jumped out at her: It was designated for transfer students. “Just knowing there was someone who wanted to support students like me really stood out, even at that time,” she says.
Now, as a member of the Board of Trustees, Filo helps guide the university in making Stanford affordable to even more students. Expanding financial aid will require the broad support of donors—which is why she and her husband, David, established a matching fund that helps more people create scholarships. She says it’s a way for them to support and encourage others while magnifying the impact of their gifts.
Filo says she finds the university’s commitment to need-blind admission “very powerful” and hopes that the Fast Forward Match will lead to more scholarships, making financial aid a reality for generations to come.
“The giving that we do at Stanford, especially around financial aid, is tied to the hope that we can have more educational equity, and that there can be broader access for students who want to come here,” she says.
